Nov. 12 — Independent rap rock band Above Snakes premiered its latest single and video last month.
The musical arrangement featured in ‘Nothing To Lose’ is a full on nu-metal composition. Between the crunching guitars, the catchy choruses and the happy-hopping rapping, the song immediately conjures thoughts of Limp Bizkit. The song’s lyrical theme meanwhile, is a defiant middle finger towards society that celebrates audiences’ individuality.
Front man Johnny Skulls discussed the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.
“This is an unapologetic anthem to not giving a F and living life the way you want,” he said. “Life is too short and you gotta follow your dreams now matter how many people are chirping in your ear, telling you you’re crazy.”
The video for ‘Nothing To Lose’ finds Johnny Skulls and his band mates in a warehouse setting, performing their new single. Meanwhile a family watching the video is surprised to see the video, the parents covering their children’s eyes in the shock. The visualization is meant to help translate Johnny Skulls’ statement about not caring what people think and being one’s self regardless.
