Rising alternative pop-rock band Between Kings has released their new single “Antidote” and announced their new EP, Young Love, is coming this spring. With its personal take on mental health, “Antidote,” the lead single off the upcoming EP due out Friday, April 24th via The Regime, is a non-judgmental observation of how society copes with the pressures of modern society.
“‘Antidote’ is a song about coming to terms with the harsh reality that mental health issues plague modern society,” shares the band. “Whether it be anti-depressants or other forms of self-medication, some of us simply can’t get through a day without an antidote. This song touches on these sensitive topics regarding depression and anxiety and comes from a place of honesty as mental health affects so many of us including some of us in the band. So, whether your antidote is music, medication or whatever else helps you get through your day, sometimes it’s okay to admit that we all need a little help.”
The Australian-bred, Los Angeles-based quartet – Nic Machuca [vocals], Jordan Coyne [guitar], Jayden Marsh [bass], Nick Fanning [drums] – are at once a throwback to those times when rock ‘n’ roll music could save your life and a glimpse into its possible future. Between Kings released their debut album The Escape in 2018, which showcased their penchant for arena-rock choruses and emo-punk influences like Blink-182, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park and Rage Against the Machine. The band’s forthcoming five-song EP, produced by Jimmy Messer [AWOLNATION, Kygo, Kelly Clarkson, Selena Gomez], demonstrates a real progression in songcraft, a modern-day pop hybrid that incorporates scratching, synths and even hip-hop beats to a classic-rock palette that evokes both The Beatles and U2.
Between Kings will showcase their new single and more on Wednesday, February 12th when they headline The Whisky A Go-Go on the famed Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. Later this month, the band heads to Las Vegas for the #happens rock and alternative radio convention that will also find them performing at SRH Fest at Hard Rock Live on Saturday, February 29th alongside Kottonmouth Kings, (HED) P.E. and more.
Between Kings, whose music has been streamed over 1.3 million times on Spotify, started out playing open mic nights in Brisbane before tackling the club circuit and then becoming one of Australia’s top touring attractions, including an outing with Escape the Fate. Now based in the States, the sky is the limit for the young four-piece.
