March 16 — Punk rock outfit Camiches (CMXS) announced Wednesday, it has signed a record deal with independent label, Wiretap Records.
The deal will see the band release its new self-titled EP later this year through the label. The EP’s release date is under consideration.
In anticipation of the record’s release, the band premiered the EP’s lead single, ‘Durmiendo En El Camino‘ and its companion video Wednesday. Roughly translated, the song’s title is ‘Sleeping On The Road.’
The musical arrangement featured in ‘Sleeping On The Road’ is a familiar style presentation that will appeal to pop punk and emo punk fans alike. That is evidenced in the specific sounds of the vocals, bass, and guitar. It is akin to so many of the band’s counterparts within the punk and emo realms, such as Touche Amore, Title Fight, and Basement.
The lyrical theme that accompanies the song’s musical arrangement presents something of an existential nature, according to guitarist/vocalist Sinuhe Lopez.
“’Durmiendo En El Camino’ is a song about adolescence from the perspective of a middle-aged adult,” Lopez said. “Every adult misses the lifestyle, feelings, experiences, and vitality of struggling and searching for meaning or direction. Adolescence is one of the most fun, crucial, spotted and determining stages in anyone’s life; hence the concern and motivation to write about its benefits.”
The video for ‘Sleeping On The Road’ would seem to coincide with the song’s lyrical theme as a driver picks up a group of unidentified individuals during his ride. Audiences are left to assume that the individuals that the driver picks up are perhaps his former self from years ago. That is just this critic’s interpretation.
