Dec. 1 — Independent rock band Insolace premiered the video for its latest single over the weekend.
The band premiered the video for its new single, ‘Maybe It’s Just Me‘ Friday. The premiere of the new single and video came more than two months after the band premiered its then latest single, ‘Calm.’
The musical arrangement featured in ‘Maybe It’s Just Me’ is a direct change of pace from that of ‘Calm.’ Where ‘Calm’ features more of an emopunk style arrangement and sound, ‘Maybe It’s Just Me’ takes the band in a more 80s new wave pop direction. It makes for an interesting contrast for the band. At the same time, there is something about the song that is still catchy enough to appeal even to modern rock fans thanks to the work of the guitars and drums. That contrast within the song makes it even more engaging and entertaining.
The band explained the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.
“In its simplest form, this is a song about self sabotage,” the statement reads in part. “It’s about always knowing what choice would make your life easier but always choosing the chaotic side, maybe because you enjoy it or maybe just because that’s what’s normal to you. There’s comfort in chaos if you’re in it long enough. It’s also about not knowing what’s right and wrong. Not being taught or never truly understanding things aside from your own perspective. What’s right to me maybe wrong to you you and the other way round is also true.”
The statement continues, “I think a lot of people will relate to this feeling – we’ve all known the healthy path to go down yet chose the opposite route because who knows, maybe it’s more fun? Maybe not. Ultimately the song is about taking responsibility for your own actions and realizing if your life is spiraling out of control it’s only you who can get yourself back on the right path – whatever that may be.“
The video for ‘Maybe It’s Just Me’ features vocalist Millie Cook in a variety of settings — most prominently in a richly lit hallway — singing against the song as it plays over that visualization.
