The remaining members of Static-X and “mystery” masked-singer Edsel Dope brought their heartfelt tribute to Wayne Static to Harpo’s Concert Theater in Detroit, MI on Saturday, July 13th. The sold out crowd was incredible. Unfortunately I missed opening act Dope and co-headliner Devildriver, but talking with many people in the audience both bands had great sets. Devildriver never disappoints and neither does Dope.
What I did see upon my arrival was the remaining members of Static-X and Dope frontman Edsel Dope doing their best to conjure up the spirit of 1999 and perfectly executing the mission. The set opened with “Bled For Days” and followed with 7 more tracks from the hallmark album ‘Wisconsin Death Trip’. 1999 is alive and well this night at the Legendary Harpo’s. (I will also note that the venue itself has a whole new energy under the new ownership by Ruzvelt Stevanovski who is a legend in the Detroit concert scene as the founder of the original ‘Blondies’)
The show continued on with “Get To The Gone” and later “Let’s Start A War”. War indeed in the pit. The night was capped off with the always fun “Push It”. Wayne Static would have been proud this night.
