That Summer Premieres Debut Album’s Lead Single, Video

April 1 — Independent rock band That Summer is set to release its debut album this year, and in anticipation of its release, debuted the album’s lead single and video this week.

The band is working on its as yet untitled album whose release date is also under consideration. It will release through independent record label, Ring Records. In anticipation of the album’s release, the band premiered its lead single, ‘Dangerous Backgrounds‘ and the song’s video Thursday.

The song’s musical arrangement is a unique presentation that defies full classification. At times, the subtle, flowing guitar line conjures thoughts of works from Dinosaur Jr. As the song progresses though, there is a touch of pop rock (and even a limited comparison to works from Tom Petty in this critic’s ear) in the whole. The overall arrangement is a composition that is surprisingly infectious and enjoyable.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the press release announcing the band’s new single, video, and album. No lyrics were provided with the song’s video, either.

The video features the band working in the studio and blends that with footage of the band members simply going about their lives. Among it all, there is also an appearance by someone who looks an awful lot like former MTV VJ Matt Pinfield.
