Fences Announces New Album Details; Debuts Album’s Lead Single, Video

March 17 — Indie rock band Fences is set to release its new album this summer.

The band is scheduled to release its new album, Bright Soil in August through ENCI Records. The album’s exact release date is under consideration.

In anticipation of the album’s release, the band released its lead single, ‘Thin Legs‘ and the song’s video Friday. The song’s musical arrangement is a soft, flowing neo-folk style composition whose vocals are reminiscent of those of Jack Johnson. The light, poppy approach and sound is certain to appeal to Fences’ fans and those of Johnson and any neo-folk aficionados.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the premiere of the new single and video, and the album’s pending release. The lyrics provided with the video hint at someone trying but failing to accept things are getting better.

If in fact that is the case, then it would seem to go along with a sentiment that Christopher Mansfield (the mind behind Fences) shared in a prepared statement about his sense about the album in whole.

“I felt empowered by other people,” Mansfield said. “I didn’t feel alone. I felt happy.”

The video for Fences’ new single follows Mansfield as his character is hitchhiking in a mountainous area. The priest picks him up and brings him for his journey to a church. From there, the pair form a friendship that ultimately leaves Mansfield’s character in a better place, emotionally at the story’s end. Again, that sense of disbelief and trying to accept things are getting better seems to work well with this story.
