April 26 — Veteran prog-rock band Yes gave audiences another preview of its new album, Mirror to the Sky this week.
The preview came in the form of the album’s second single, ‘All Connected‘ and the song’s companion lyric video. The band debuted the single Tuesday, more than a month after premiering the album’s lead single, ‘Cut From The Stars‘ and its companion lyric video.
Clocking in at just over nine minutes, the band’s latest single lends itself to comparison to works from the likes of Spock’s Beard just as much as Transatlantic. That is evidenced through the combination of the song’s light guitar line, keyboards and vocals. In simple terms, the arrangement is a work that will especially appeal to fans of vintage prog-rock.
According to bassist Billy Sherwood, the lyrical theme at the heart of the band’s new single centers on how people communicate.
“The initial idea came from a musical sketch I’d created using the idea of our ‘connectivity’ in regard to communications in the modern age,” Sherwood said.
The song’s lyric video works with that concept by presenting imagery, such as silhouettes of people all connected, communication lines spanning the Earth, and fiber optic cables.
