Queens Of The Stone Age Debuts New Album’s Third Single, Video For Album’s Second Single; Announces More New Live Dates

June 14 — Queens of The Stone Age is giving audiences a double dose of new material this week.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Paper Machete,’ the third single from the band’s forthcoming album, In Times New Roman, and the new video for the album’s second single, ‘Carnavoyeur‘ Tuesday. The band premiered that single late last month, along with its lyric video.

‘Paper Machete’ is a distinct change of sound and style from Queens of the Stone Age in comparison to the album’s existing singles. Whereas those songs boast much more of the band’s trademark stoner rock fuzz, this song takes that fuzz and turns the song in a more garage rock direction. Even being such a change in sound and style, it still holds its own against those works, certainly adding its own touch to the record’s whole.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the premiere of the new single. The lyrics provided with the song point to the song’s theme possibility centering on a woman who is apparently anything but the greatest person. That is, as always , just this critic’s interpretation.

Carnavoyeur Video

The video for the band’s single, ‘Carnavoyeur’ is in fact the song’s new lyric video. The video is now the second lyric video for the single. The band premiered the song’s initial lyric video early this month. Where that video placed the song’s lyrics over a series of random psychedelic elements as backgrounds, the new lyric video is distinctly different. It features imagery, such as the Grim Reaper, vultures circling a dying matador, and as its culmination, the matador facing off against the reaper. The song plays over the new visualization as everything happens.

New Tour Dates

In other news, Queens of the Stone age has also announced more new tour dates in support of its new album. The latest schedule is a series of European dates that will run from Friday in Neuhausen ob Eck, Germany to July 8 in Lisbon, Portugal.

After the band completes its European run, it will take some time off to rest and recharge before launching the previously announced North American leg of its tour, which is scheduled to launch Aug. 3 in Sterling Heights, MI and to run through Oct. 8 in Sacramento, CA.

Once the North American leg of the tour is done, the band will return to Europe for a second run starting Nov. 4 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The second run is set to wind down Nov. 22 in Dublin, IE.
