June 22 — Sevendust gave audiences yet another preview of its forthcoming album this week.
The band debuted the video for its new single, ‘Holy Water‘ Thursday. ‘Holy Water’ is the third single from the band’s forthcoming album, Truth Killer. The band debuted the album’s second single, ‘Everything‘ and its video last month. Its premiere was preceded by that of the album’s lead single, ‘Fence‘ and its companion video.
The video for ‘Holy Water’ is a simple presentation. It features the band performing its new single on a darkened sound stage as the song plays over the visualization. Various video effects are used to help enhance the presentation.
The musical arrangement featured in ‘Holy Water’ is immediately recognizable for the band’s established audiences. Its melodic approach harkens back to works that the band featured in its sophomore album, Home (1999) and its follow-up, Animosity (2001). Its stylistic approach and sound is also just as easily comparable to works from the likes of Gears and The Veer Union.
No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the video’s premiere. In listening to the song, its lyrics hint at perhaps someone who has reached a certain point in life, emotionally; someone who has had enough of things being a certain way and is just fed up with it. That is just this critic’s interpretation. The mention of the holy water is more or less allegorical and metaphorical.
In other news, Sevendust also announced more new live dates this week. The band’s new dates are on the “Machine Killer Tour” with Static-X, Dope and Lines of Loyalty. The band’s upcoming run on the “Machine Killer Tour” starts Oct. 6 in Houston, TX and is set to run through Nov. 1 in Los Angeles, CA. It includes stops in cities, such as Gary, IN; Greensboro, NC and Tempe, AZ.
