June 7 — With only days left until the release of its new album, Plein D’Amour, The Guess Who is giving audiences another preview of the record, which is scheduled for release June 30 through Deko Entertainment.
The band premiered the album’s third single, ‘Headline‘ and its companion video June 2. The song’s musical arrangement is an acoustic composition whose simple, gentle vocal harmonies from the band members throw back to the sound and styles of some of the band’s great existing works and of so many veteran pure guitar rock bands.
As to the song’s lyrical theme, front man Derek Sharp said the song is a commentary on the new media’s constant stream of negativity.
“Headlines are inherently orchestrated, recurring one-liners regurgitated by our media,” Sharp said. They are negative in nature and most of the time…. verbatim en masse. Something genuine, uplifting and inspiring is the path forward. This dusty old review could use a new headline.”
The video for the band’s new single is engaging and entertaining in its own way, featuring the band in a pair of lighthearted settings, one a well-known dry lake bed with mountains in the distance and the other a more intimate, almost resort type backdrop. The band’s new single plays over the visuals.
The debut of ‘Headline’ and its video was preceded by those of the album’s title track and the album’s lead single, ‘The King.’
