Aug. 11 — Independent hard rock band Rahway unveiled its latest single and video this weekend.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Drowning‘ and the song’s companion video Friday. The news release announcing the pair’s premiere does not state whether the song is featured in the band’s forthcoming, as yet untitled EP, which is expected for release this year. The EP has already produced two singles, ‘Rocketship‘ and ‘Carry You‘.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Drowning’ will appeal to fans of the vintage guitar rock sounds of the 80s. That is due to the obvious influence of bands, such as Motley Crue and Guns N’ Roses in the heavy, rich guitar and bass lines and through the distinct vocal styling.

The song’s lyrical theme takes on the all too familiar topic of social media and its negative influence on society, according to a statement from the band.

“In an era when social media has become a battleground for validation and self-worth, Rahway fearlessly explores the dark underbelly of fabricated lives,” the statement reads in part. “‘Drowning’ captures the essence of a person drowning in their own falsehoods desperately seeking approval through carefully crafted images and narratives. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the individual’s relentless pursuit of a mirage, ultimately exposing the hollowness that lies beneath the surface.”

The song’s video features the band performing its new single inside and outside a large house, perhaps used to illustrate the message of the falsities that so many people portray through social media.
