Rap Duo Announces New Album Details; Debuts Album’s Lead Single

-

Aug. 3 — Rap duo Danger Mouse and Jemini The Gifted One will tentatively release its sophomore album, Born Again, later this month.

Recorded originally in 2004, the album’s release was delayed due to various factors until this year. It is scheduled for release Aug. 25 through Lex Records. In anticipation of its release, Danger Mouse and Jemini debuted the album’s lead single, ‘Brooklyn Basquiat‘ Thursday.

Musically speaking the female backing vocals conjure thoughts of those used in Biggie Smalls’ hit single, ‘Hypnotize’ while the duo’s own flow conjures thoughts of works from the likes of Jurassic 5, Mos Def and even Gorillaz. The juxtaposition of those leanings makes for an interesting musical presentation that is certain to engage and entertain audiences.

No Information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the debut of the new single and the album’s pending release. The release does note the songs in the duo’s new album are “fun-loving, sh*t-talking innocence.” Danger Mouse even goes so far as to outright state that the issue he is trying to address in the song is how someone stays fresh so long (IE, relevant and popular). He adds how so many acts just flare out so quickly, not staying around but so long. One could argue that this is essentially a commentary about how much music has changed over the years and that there are no real superstars anymore, anyone to really lay the foundation for the next generation.
