The Dollyrots Debuts Lyric Video For New Single, ‘Hey Girl’

Sept. 14 — The Dollyrots gave audiences another preview of its forthcoming album, Night Owl, this week.

The preview came in the form of the lyric video for the album’s latest single, ‘Hey Girl.’ The lyric video is a familiar style presentation for any act. It features the song’s lyrics (presented in what is meant to be a distinctly punk style font) over video footage of The Dollyrots out on the road on stage and with fans. The new single plays over the visualization as the whole plays out.

Singer/bassist Kelly Ogden talked about the video’s treatment in a prepared statement.

“We love the idea of having lyric videos for all the songs on the album,” Ogden said. “I can remember getting a new cassette when I was a kid and opening up the insert so I could read and sing along. I guess it’s kinda the modern-day version of that… you don’t really know the album until you know the words. Words overlaying little snapshots of our life touring and recording.”

The song’s musical arrangement is another catchy, infectious pop punk type composition very much in the vein of The Donnas, The Cocktail Slippers and others of that ilk.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme, though considering the content presented, the theme is very much left to interpretation. It hints at something of a pro-LGBTQ+ theme of sorts, at least to this critic.

‘Hey Girl’ is the second single from Night Owl. The band debuted the album’s lead single/title track last month. Night Owl is scheduled for release Oct. 13 through Wicked Cool Records.
