Sept. 29 — Independent rock band The Stone Eye debuted its latest single and video this week.
The band, now comprised of core members Stephen Burdick (guitar, vocals, bass, keyboard) and Jeremiah Burtin (drums), unveiled its new single, ‘Raindrops‘ Friday, alongside the song’s companion lyric video. The standalone single’s musical arrangement continues the band’s trend of compositions that boldly hold their own unique identity. That is evident through its blend of post-grunge and psychedelic rock. The Alice in Chains-esque sound that the band has come to be known for makes up the song’s post-grunge side while the much more experimental leaning shows the more psychedelic side.
Burdick talked about the song’s creation in a prepared statement.
“‘Raindrops’ is in many ways, a return to form for the band,” Burdick said. “Following our latest LP and the departure of a couple of members, the band found itself consisting of its original two core members, Jeremiah and I (Stephen). Instead of rushing to fill-in the gaps left behind, we decided to try and revisit the original songwriting formula whilst applying the experience we have accumulated over the years. Thus that’s how ‘Raindrops’ came to be.”
Burdick continued, “The tune definitely has some ‘modern’ Stone Eye elements to it, e.g. odd time signatures and unexpected detours, but it also definitely hits in a way that is reminiscent of our earlier work- raw, heavy, and condensed. It’s an old meets new for us, and it’s pretty damn cool”‘
No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the premiere of the new song and video. The lyrics provided in the song’s lyric video hint at perhaps the theme of a relationship. That is just this critic’s own interpretation. Speaking of the video, the song’s lyrics play over the visual of what is meant to look like a painted story as the song plays over the presentation.
The debut of The Stone Eyes’ new single follows the release of the band’s latest album, Fata Morgana. The album is available now. It has produced four singles, ‘T.G.R.,’ ‘Oogie-Dew,’ ‘Not My Circus,‘ and ‘Donora‘.
