Oct. 11 — Scott Stapp will release his next album early next year.
The Creed front man’s next album, Higher Power, March 15 through Napalm Records. The announcement was made Wednesday. In anticipation of the record’s release, Stapp released the album’s second single, ‘What I Deserve,’ and the song’s companion lyric video.
The musical arrangement featured in Stapp’s new single is a brooding composition whose contemplative verses and heavier choruses make the song comparable to some of the work in his existing catalog and even to some heavier Creed compositions.
According to information provided in the news release announcing the premiere of the new single and video, the song’s lyrical theme focuses on the all-too-familiar topic of relationships.
Stapp discussed the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.
“We all want back what we give,” Stapp said. “‘What I Deserve’ is about two people understanding who they are individually and coming to a place where they can express exactly what they each want, need, and deserve. The duality in the song is that both sides are expressing the same thing and coming to an understanding of the faults of the other. This song pleads both guilty and innocent with Yiannis’ guitar solo being the voice that articulates a chaotic search for deliverance and the epic release of passionate closure.”
The song’s lyric video features the song’s lyrics presented over images of male and female silhouettes, a chessboard, and scales of justice as the song plays over the visualization.
