Dec. 5 — Dragonforce has partnered with the makers of the virtual reality game “Beat Saber” to release a new song and video for the game’s soundtrack.
The band debuted the video for its song, ‘Power of the Sabre Blade’ Tuesday. The video opens with a spoof of the advertisements that so many companies run on television for their otherwise poor quality products before leading into the video, which finds the band teaching a young man who otherwise has no life other than video games how to be much more than he was before meeting the group.
The spoof of all of those TV product ads makes for more than its own share of engagement and entertainment while the overall story is sure to generate its own share of interest as the young man finally starts to learn how to be a “normal” person rather than someone who relies on video games and lives with his mom.
The musical arrangement featured in Dragonforce’s new single is everything that the band’s fans have come to expect from the veteran power metal outfit, with all of the familiar intense machine gun fast drumming and guitar shredding alongside the equally powerful operatic vocals.
No information about the song’s lyrical theme was presented about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the premiere of the new video. Lyrics were also not available with the video.
Guitarist Herman Li had the following to say of the song: “It’s truly an honour for DRAGONFORCE to create an exclusive track for Beat Saber, a game we are wholeheartedly passionate about. We hope fans will discover the exhilaration of ‘Power of the Saber Blade,’ finding it both enjoyable and challenging across all levels. We’re eagerly anticipating the skillful attempts on Expert+”
In other news, Dragonforce also announced Tuesday, the details for its next album, Warp Speed Warriors. The nine-song album is scheduled for release March 15 through Napalm Records. Pre-orders are open.
Warp Speed Warriors has already produced two singles, most recently the tribute to the famed Zelda video games, ‘Power of the Triforce.’ Its release was preceded by that of the record’s lead single, ‘Doomsday Party‘ in September. A re-worked version of the song featuring a guest appearance by new Amaranthe vocalist Elize Ryd premiered over the weekend.

In still more news, Dragonforce has also announced it will launch a European co-headlining tour with Amaranthe Feb. 21 in Hamburg, Germany. The tour is scheduled to run through March 24 in London, UK with stops in cities across Europe, such as Warsaw, Poland; Budapest, Hungary and Madrid, Spain.
