Upcoming ToursJordan Rudess Announces New Record Deal, Album Details

Feb. 2 — Jordan Rudess has a new record deal and album on the way.

Officials with InsideOut Music announced Friday, the Dream Theater keyboardist has signed a new record deal with the label and will release his next, as yet untitled album through the label this year. The new record, which is expected for release in September — with an exact release date under consideration — will feature performances by drummer Darby Todd (Devin Townsend, The Darkness) and vocalist Joe Payne.

Rudess discussed his forthcoming album in a prepared statement.

“I knew I was going to have some time off after the last Dream Theater tour ended. Enough time to, hopefully, complete a new solo album,” Rudess said. “I wanted this album to push me to evolve a new compositional perspective. So, this album is my inaugural voyage into crafting a solo album with a dedicated vocalist in mind.”

That dedicated vocalist is Payne, of whom Rudess also talked.

“Joe Payne’s vocals inspired me from the first time I heard him, and drummer, Darby Todd, has infused each track with his distinctive style,” he said.

Along with working with Payne and Todd, Rudess said he also incorporated a member of his own family into the album alongside Payne while additionally taking a first step in a new direction, musically.

“I’m also stepping into uncharted instrumental territory, playing guitar on a few tracks,” Rudess said. ”Another first, my daughter, Ariana, has penned all the lyrics for this album. We’ve worked closely together, ensuring that each lyric weaves a story and allows Joe’s beautiful voice to soar. Proud Dad here. All around this album is a testament to collaboration and personal growth.”

Thomas Waber, InsideOut Music label-head, said in his own comments, he was happy to have Rudess releasing his new record through the company.

“Having worked alongside Jordan with Dream Theater for several years now, we are extremely pleased to be releasing his forthcoming new solo album, Waber said. “Jordan is an artist always at the cutting edge of technology, and we look forward to exploring that with his new music.”

In other news, Rudess has partnered with artificial intelligence company Moises for its “Moises Jam Sessions” series. The partnership saw him release the single, ‘Embers’ through the company. Audiences who have the Moises app can actually remix his Rudess’ new single.

Rudess talked about the new partnership in depth.

“My passion for pushing boundaries in music and technology has always been fierce,” said Rudess. “It’s this very passion that brought me to the incredible team at Moises. Their groundbreaking tools have become the cornerstone of my musical journey, powering my performances on stage and my in-studio explorations.”

‘Embers’ is expected for release through all streaming outlets next month. The song features Rudess alongside Payne, Todd and guitarist Bastian Martinez.
