TobyMac-Concert Review and Gallery-03/03/2024-Fiserv Forum-Milwaukee, WI-Reviewed and Photographed by Jeremy Smith

The TobyMac Hits Deep Tour hits Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum

A Sunday night at The Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee WI was filled with praise music by six christian music artists. The arena had a large stage setup with a big walkway leading up to what would be a small stage out in the audience. This setup really kept things moving. One band would play the main stage and the next would be ready to go very shortly after on the smaller stage. There was very little time between sets.
The evening started out with Jon Reddick a songwriter and worship pastor. John Reddick had a quick four song set to get the show started. With how good Jon Reddick sounded I feel the audience would have loved to hear more from him.
Next up on the small stage was Terrian with a another short set. With the small stage being in the middle of the audience, made the performances on this stage feel more intimate. At least to those of us near it. Terrian really sounded amazing live singing “Honestly, We Just Need Jesus” and “Big God”. I definitely would have enjoyed hearing more from Terrian. But this wouldn’t be the last we’d see and hear of Terrian as she is also the headliner TobyMac’s background vocalist and dancers.
The third set of the night and back up on the mainstage was Mac Powell former front man of Third Day. Now Mac Powell is not only a great songwriter but his voice really just resonates among you. He definitely had a big following of fans there with the cheers from the audience. Definitely a lot carried over from his days with Third Day. A few from his set were “Soul On Fire”, “How Great Thou Art” and “God Of Wonders”.
Now back to the small stage was Tasha Layton who also sounded absolutely amazing! A couple of her songs of the evening were, “Into The Sea (It’s Gonna Be OK) and “Look What You’ve Done”. Tasha Layton’s set was too short for me but the songs were definitely beautiful and uplifting. I hope to see her live again with a full set.
Now the rest of the evening would be up on the main stage. Up next was Cory Asbury, a singer songwriter with a country feel to his music. A couple of my favorites from Cory Asbury’s set were, “The Father’s House” and “Reckless Love”. I’ve seen Cory Asbury perform in the past and it’s always a performance that is well received by the audience.
Up to now the evening was pretty quick moving from artist to artist. After Cory Asbury a representative from Feeding Hunger spoke and then we had an intermission which was definitely needed by many. Seeing as though there wasn’t any break between the prior sets.
After intermission it was time for the headliner of the evening, that being TobyMac. TobyMac is a singer and songwriter that also mixes in some rapping.
TobyMac was joined on stage not only by the band but he also had two backup singers that were also dancers. One of those being Terrian. TobyMac’s set was almost an hour and a half long, filled with songs of faith and hope. Songs with a upbeat positive feeling that got him and the audience moving and dancing to. TobyMac also shared some background on songs which were written after losing his first born son to addiction. He also mentioned that he got to play basketball earlier that day at the Milwaukee Bucks practice and joked he had to teach Cory Asbury how to play. This concert was in the Fiserv Forum which is the home of the Bucks. Towards the end of TobyMac’s set he came back out wearing a Bucks jersey. This was my first time seeing TobyMac and ge is an exceptional performer. His vocals sound great live, the band sounds so good and the bit of dancing. Just makes for a really fun show. But on top of that the messages in the song lyrics of faith, hope and love are what really set TobyMac and other artists in the christian music genre apart. You come to these shows and you see families having a good time together, and praising God. TobyMac’s set ended with confetti filling up the arena as it floated around. Some of my favorites of TobyMac’s set were “I Just Need U”, “Love Broke Through”, “Lose My Soul”, “Faithfully”, “City On Our Knees” and “Speak Life”. Seeing his show I’m really surprised just how many hits he has that are heard regularly on christian radio.
TobyMac’s Hits Deep Concert is definitely an amazing show to see. I really enjoy going to christian music concerts they really do hit Deep and just make you feel so much better after attending. From all the wonderful messages spoken and in the music it truly is an uplifting show.
