May 15 — AFI’s 1999 album Black Sails in the Sunset will receive a special vinyl re-issue this summer.
In celebration of the record’s 25th anniversary, Craft Recordings will tentatively re-issue the album on vinyl July 19 in a new expanded edition pressing. The announcement was made Wednesday through a news release distributed by Craft Recordings. The forthcoming expanded edition will feature three bonus tracks: the previously unreleased ‘Weight of Words,’ the rare track, ”Who Knew’ (which was originally released in Japan as a b-side) and the vinyl exclusive ‘Lower It.’
The new vinyl re-issue will release on separate orange, “sunspot,” “tropical sunset,” and “oriole” pressings.
Front man Davey Havok talked about the importance of Black Sails in the Sunset in a prepared statement, recalling his love for the album.
“Black Sails will always be very dear to me,” Havok said. “It represents the most profound artistic turning point of the band. With this record came Hunter’s permanence and Jade’s arrival. It is the inchoate definition of what AFI would become and is today. “Weight of Words” is one of my favorites from the session. On this edition it may be heard for the first time.”
