Apr. 30 — Deep Purple is set to release its latest album this summer.
The band announced Tuesday through a news release, it is scheduled to release its enigmatically titled 22nd album =1 July 19 through earMusic. In anticipation of the album’s release, the band premiered the record’s lead single, ‘Portable Door’ and the song’s companion video Tuesday.
Musically speaking, ‘Portable Door’ is everything that audiences have come to expect from Deep Purple throughout its history. The rich keyboard lines are there alongside the equally immersive guitar lines and those vocals from front man Ian Gillan.
No information was provide bout the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the debut of the new single and video and the album’s pending release. The lyrics provided with the song’s video come across as a social commentary of sorts. That is just this critic’s own interpretation, though they leave room for plenty of interpretation..
The video is a simple presentation. It features the band in front of a blue screen, performing its new single. The imagery that plays behind the band is astronomical in nature.
=1 will release on a variety of platforms including a double-disc CD/DVD digipack, single-disc CD, 2 LP gatefold vinyl set, Limited Edition 2 LP purple gatefold vinyl pressing, limited edition2 LP clear gatefold vinyl set, and a box set containing the CD/DVD set and a 2 LP black vinyl set, 3x vinyl 10″ records containing live performances from Deep Purple captured during its 2022 tour, a collector’s t-shirt, a pair of guitar picks, an exclusive art print, tour lanyard, and the chance to win a golden ticket for exclusive access to every show on the band’s upcoming tour.
Speaking of that tour, the band also announced in the aforementioned news release, a tour to support its forthcoming album set to launch Aug. 14 in Hollywood, FL. The tour is set to run through Sept. 8 in Scranton, PA and also includes stops in cities nationwide, such as Cincinnati, OH; Bridgeport, CT and Fort Worth, TX.
