May 29 — The Exies will release its first new record in more than 15 years this summer.
The band announced Wednesday, it is scheduled to release its new EP, Closure, June 28. In anticipation of its release, the band, which broke up in 2010, will perform live tonight in The Viper Room in Los Angeles, CA. Former MTV personality and current AXSTV star Matt Pinfield will host tonight’s event. Tickets are available here.
Front man Scott Stevens said he was looking forward to tonight’s performance in a prepared statement.
“For the Viper Room, it’s family; it’s where we got signed,” Stevens said. “Everything that made a difference for us happened there, so it’s fitting that this is where the reunion show would be held.”
Additionally, the band debuted the EP’s third single, ‘s.A.D.‘ Wednesday, along with its companion lyric video. The premiere of the new single and video follows that of the record’s second single, ‘For What It’s Worth,’ and its lead single, ‘Spirits High.’
As with its two current predecessors, the record’s latest single is a brooding composition, musically speaking. The band’s trademark radio ready heaviness is, at the same time, just as present. The whole gives audiences much of what they came to expect from the band prior to its breakup in 2010 in regard to stylistic approach while also giving listeners something new at the same time.
Stevens discussed the song’s lyrical theme at length in a separate statement.
“I wrote ‘s.A.D’ during the grip of the Covid shut down at its highest point,” said Stevens. “It’s the 1st song that I had written for myself in a long, long time and it became the catalyst for the Closure EP really. It’s about wanting and needing a change. Really reaching to touch and live out your dreams but something always seems to knock you back a peg, yet still remaining optimistic that better days are ahead.”
