May 7 — A month after giving audiences their first preview of its new album, Theories of Emptiness, Evergrey has unveiled the record’s second single and video.
The band unveiled, Tuesday, the video for the album’s second single, ‘Say.’ It follows the premiere of the album’s lead single, ‘Falling From The Sun.’ The musical arrangement featured in ‘Say’ is distinctly different from that featured in ‘Falling From The Sun’ as that single is more of a heavy, melodic rock composition. ‘Say,’ meanwhile, is more of a Dram Theater style progressive metal style opus in its overall instrumentation and vocal presentation.
No information was provided about the lyrical theme behind ‘Say’ in the news release announcing the video’s debut. No lyrics are provided alongside the song’s video, either, leaving interpretation up to audiences.
Recorded at the Halvegarden Horse and Event Center in Halvedardsvagen, Sweden, the video features the band performing its new single in the building’s interior. The video ends cryptically, with drummer Jonas Ekdahl the band’s lone member placing his drumsticks on his drumset’s snare drum, walking to the camera and offering thanks to fans before walking alone, out of the facility.
Front man Tom Englund had the following to say of the video’s finale:
“Regarding the end of the video there will of course be questions, a lot of questions, we have the answers.”
