June 7 — Less than a year after releasing the then latest Ronnie James Dio box set, Niji Entertainment and BMG will release another box set from the famed rocker this summer.
The Complete Donington Collection is scheduled for release July 19 on a limited edition 5LP box set. The collection, which features Ronnie Jame Dio’s 1983 and 1987 performances at the famed annual rock festival (both on 2LP sets with a bonus picture disc), will come a little more than nine months after the release of The Studio Album: 1996-2004.
RJD’s widow, Wendy Dio spoke highly of the concerts in a prepared statement.
“Fond memories of sitting on the grass and watching the bands play,” she said. “This is an amazing Collection. 1983 when Ronnie had just recently formed the Dio Band and again in 1987. Ronnie always enjoyed playing in Britain, he loved the audiences and the beer!”
The 1983 performance features the original RJD band lineup from the “Holy Diver Tour.” The concert featured in the recording was captured just three months after that lineup released its debut album. Its set list features songs, such as “Holy Diver”, “Rainbow In The Dark”, and “Stand Up And Shout.”
The 1987 performance features the band’s Dream Evil lineup. It features songs, such as “The Last In Line”, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Children,” and “All The Fools Sailed Away.”
