EMF plays Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI for their first show in the USA in 32 years. Being a big fan of EMF I was very excited when I saw the announcement from Summerfest that they would be playing the first weekend of the festival. After all these years I never thought I would have had the opportunity to see them live. Having recently just released a new album “The Beauty and the Chaos” I have been listening to EMF a lot again. So I couldn’t wait for the show. I must say after all these years EMF puts on an amazing live show. They went on at 10:00 pm on a Friday night on the US Cellular Stage which is a huge stage, with the Milwaukee skyline off to the side of it in the distance. The audience definitely had many long time fans, that shared the same excitement as me.
EMF came out with the first song being “Children”. I could tell the band was just as excited to be up on that stage as we were to see them. The band just seemed to be having a great time up on there and happy to be back in the USA after all these years. EMF had a great set with favorites through the years like, “Lies”, “Seek and Destroy” and “Long Summer Days”. They also played songs off the latest album such as “Read the Room”, “Reach For the Lasers”, “Hello People”, and which singer James Atkin said the best song they ever wrote “The Day the Music Died”. Of course they also played the hit “Unbelievable” which James Atkin teased should we play it or not. Unfortunately “Unbelievable” is the only song that really went main stream here in the USA. EMF is such a great band with so many awesome songs that it just makes me wish they would have gotten a lot more popular here. For us fans that listen to all the albums we know what a talented band they are.
EMF has such a great catalog of music that is so fun and has a great feel to it, the music translates so good live. Which makes for a fun concert that just gets the audience moving. I believe EMF had more planned in the set for us, until someone off stage told them they only had time for one more song. Which I got the feeling disappointed the band. I and I’m sure the rest of the audience would have loved to hear what else they had for us. James Atkin then asked the audience what we’d like to hear for a last song. Some favorites were yelled out from the audience, the band then decided to end the set with “I Believe”.
EMF was one of those bands I always wanted to see, having the opportunity after all these years will make this a concert I’ll never forget. But it does leave me hoping they will be back around again. After Summerfest they had two more shows here in the USA one in Detroit, MI and one in Brooklyn, NY.
