June 7 — Foghat debuted the video for its latest single this week.
The band premiered a live clip of its new single, Black Days & Blue Nights’ Thursday through online outlet Ultimate Classic Rock. According to information provided in a news release announcing the video’s premiere, the presentation features footage of late Foghat guitarist Rod Price on stage up through the 1970s.
Drummer and founding member Roger Earl discussed the song and the video’s tie to his late band mate in a prepared statement.
As the song’s title hints, the song’s arrangement is a very blues-tinged composition that is also tinged with some clear southern rock leaning. The whole makes fora song that is wholly engaging and entertaining.
“This song is our Ode to Rod Price,” Earl said. “Our manager Linda and I began writing the song, because she had also managed Rod for a few years after he left FOGHAT in 1980. We felt compelled to write something about him. Rod was a complicated man. He was a beautiful soul, and we were good friends when he joined the band. However, after four or five years on the road, it started to wear on him. He was seeking a more peaceful existence. We were touring relentlessly and although Dave and I loved it, it was tough on Rod.”
‘Black Days & Blue Nights’ is the fourth singles from Foghat’s latest album, Sonic Mojo. The album, released late last year, produced three other singles prior to its debut. They are: “Drivin’ On,” “She’s a Little Bit of Everything” (co-written by the late Kim Simmonds from Savoy Brown) and “I Don’t Appreciate You.”
