June 3 — The Pixies unveiled some new music for its fans this week.
The music came Monday in the form of a new double A-side single, ‘You’re So Impatient’/’Que Sera Sera.’ The former is an original work with a catchy, infectious almost stoner groove, what with its fuzzed guitars. Listeners could also argue a certain garage rock leaning, too.
The band’s cover of ‘Que Sera Sera’ meanwhile, takes the song in a unique direction; a rather brooding approach that gives the otherwise happy original a while new identity. According to information in the news release announcing the debut of the new double single, this cover was originally crafted as part of the soundtrack for the MGM+ series, From.
A limited edition 7-inch single featuring both songs is scheduled for release July 19.
Front man Black Francis explained the concept behind ‘You’re So Impatient’ in a prepared statement.
“’You’re So Impatient’ is a slightly comedic suburban culture moment: there’s this guy, there’s this gal, there’s this tug-of-love dynamic going on,” he said. “But the backdrop is the mall. And while the mall is crass, it’s also a very zombie, rock ‘n’ roll horror movie setting.”
In other news, Pixies is in the midst of a U.S. tour alongside Modest Mouse and Cat Power. The tour, which launched May 31 in Charleston, SC, is scheduled to run through June 30 in Denver, CO. The U.S. run is part of a bigger world tour that already saw the band tour Ireland, The Netherlands, France and the United Kingdom in March. The band is scheduled to head overseas again following the end of the U.S. leg of the tour July 1-29.
Following time to rest and recharge after that run, Pixies will join Pearl Jam for a series of dates in Australia and New Zealand. The band’s current tour schedule is noted below.
