July 3 — Hammerfall teased its new album, Avenge The Fallen, again this week with a new single.
The band unveiled the album’s third single, ‘Freedom‘ Wednesday. Its premiere follows that of its predecessors, ‘The End Justifies,‘ which was released last month, and the album’s lead single, ‘Hail to the King,’ which dropped in May.
The musical arrangement featured in ‘Freedom’ is a driving composition. The staccato nature of the guitar line and the choruses point to influences of the likes of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. That is nothing new for Hammerfall but the arrangement still maintains its own unique identity even with the comparisons in mind.
No information regarding the song’s lyrical theme was presented in the news release announcing the new single’s debut. However, a comment from Joacim Cans about the central theme of Avenge The Fallen being personal freedom hints at the song’s theme. The statement cites him as stating, the album’s theme being about “‘freedom’ and the urge to let anyone be who they want to be.”
In other news, Hammerfall also recently announced a tour in support of its forthcoming album, which is scheduled for release Aug. 9 through Nuclear Blast Records. The tour kicked off June 5 at the Sweden Rock Festival. The tour’s next stop is scheduled for July 12 at the Midalidare Rock Festival in BG Midalidare Estate, Chirpan. The band’s current festival run is scheduled to wind down Aug. 10 at the Hellsinki Metal Fest in Helsinki, Finland.
Following that festival run, Hammerfall will join Powerwolf for a roughly month-long European run starting Oct. 10 in Hamburg, Germany. The tour is scheduled to run through Oct. 26 in Prague, the Czech Republic and includes stops in Paris, France; Antwerp, Belgium and Krakow, Poland.
