Sept. 13 — More than a dozen years after the release of its self-titled debut album, The Black Pacific will release its follow-up this month.
The band, which features Pennywise front man Jim Lindberg, is scheduled to release its new album, Here Comes Our Wave Sept. 20. The album’s release was celebrated late last month through the debut of its lead single, ‘I Think I’m Paranoid.’
Lindberg discussed the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.
“I’ve had this song for a while now and it was about all the senseless violence, terrorism, government conspiracies and divisiveness that make you want to move to a desert island somewhere, but now I’ve updated it to include hate groups, militias and global pandemics, so it’s basically just a panic attack with distorted guitars at 120 Beats Per Minute,” Lindberg said.
This is just one of the social and political commentaries featured throughout the album. The record also takes on the advance of artificial intelligence (‘Here We Come’), and dictators (‘No Fun’). There is even a love song of sorts laced with more commentary in ‘Float Away,’ a song that Lindberg explains is about building a raft so that he and his wife can escape everything going on in the world.
