‘Victim 1’ Is Another Strong Offering From A Killer’s Confession

A Killer’s Confession is set to head back out on the road next month.  The tour, set to launch Dec. 5 in Leesburg, VA, will come on the heels of the band’s recently wrapped tour alongside Drowning Pool on that band’s own headlining tour and is in support of AKC’s latest album, Victim 1.  Released Sept. 13 through MNRK Heavy, the band’s fourth album is a powerful new statement from the band that deserves plenty of attention.  That is due in part to its featured musical arrangements, which will be discussed shortly.  The general approach taken to the album is also part of its interest and will be addressed a little later.  The production of this intense record rounds out its most important elements and will also be discussed later.  Each item noted here is key in its own way to the whole of the album’s presentation.  All things considered they make Victim 1 one more of this year’s best new hard rock and metal albums.

Victim 1, the latest album from A Killer’s Confession, is the band’s best work to date.  Its appeal comes in no small part to its featured musical arrangements.  The 10 total arrangements featured here are everything that audiences have come to expect from the band since the release of its debut album, Unbroken, in 2017.  That is evidenced through the blend of melodic hard rock tracks, such as ‘Sun,’ ‘Voices’ and ‘Martyr’ with far heavier compositions, such as opener, ‘Tongue,’ the intense midpoint, ‘Purpose’ and ‘Kill or Be Killed.’  Additionally, audiences who are familiar with front man Waylon Reavis’ overall body of work will also note the continued stylistic similarity to works that he helped craft as a member of Mushroomhead years ago.  At the same time, the musical arrangements featured throughout this album once again manage to maintain their own identity even with those comparisons evident.  To that end, the musical side of Victim 1 gives audiences plenty to appreciate.

While the musical portion of Victim 1offers audiences plenty to appreciate, it is just part of what audiences will appreciate about the record.  The general approach taken to the record makes for its own appeal.  Speaking more clearly, the approach taken to the album is that of a concept story.  It marks the first time that A Killer’s Confession has gone the route of a concept record.  The story at the heart of the record follows a vigilante who is fed up with all of the negativity in the world.  Through his displeasure with the world, the seven deadly sins come into play both as he punishes others and as he fights his own urges to fight what he feels are those wrongs committed.  To that end, the whole makes for a very unique story.  At the same time that the sins are the heart of the album’s story, they are also a commentary by Reavis himself on the state of the world.  That duality therein strengthens the album’s foundation even more and in turn gives listeners even more to appreciate.

Rounding out the most important of Victim 1’s elements is its production.  As noted already, the arrangements featured throughout this album offer so much of what audiences have come to expect from AKC.  The melodic hard rock and harder-edged material is all there all while maintaining its own identity separate from what the band and its front man have composed throughout their careers.  In each song, producer Dusty Bowles ensures the instrumentation and vocals are expertly balanced while also balancing the noted influences of AKC and even Mushroomhead without ever letting one overpower the other.  The result is a positive aesthetic that does just as much to ensure listeners’ engagement and entertainment as the album’s content and the approach taken therein.  All things considered, the album in whole proves to be another successful offering from A Killer’s Confession and another welcome addition to this year’s already crowded field of new hard rock and metal albums.

Victim 1, the latest album from A Killer’s Confession, is another strong offering from the band that is sure to appeal to plenty of audiences.  This is thanks in part to the album’s featured musical arrangements.  The band’s established audience base will recognize the stylistic approach and sound in each song’s arrangement along with each work’s unique identity.  The general approach taken to the album makes for its own interest.  This as the band had not gone the concept record route until now.  What’s more the concept approached and the execution thereof are fully accessible without being redundant from other stories.  In other words, the approach is familiar, but the story is unique.  It is not just a rip-off of, say, Se7en, even centering on the seven deadly sins.  The record’s production rounds out its most important elements, resulting in a fully positive aesthetic that is just as certain to keep listeners engaged and entertained as the album’s overall content.  Each item examined is important in its own way to the whole of Victim 1.  All things considered they make Victim 1 another strong, welcome offering from A Killer’s Confession and an equally welcome addition to this year’s field of new hard rock and metal albums.
