Celtic punk outfit Jolly Jackers will tentatively release its new EP, The Blue Disc next month.
In anticipation of the record’s release, the band unveiled a new preview of the presentation in the form of its new single, ‘War‘ and the song’s companion video Friday. While the band is a Celtic punk outfit, this song is anything but more of what audiences have come to expect from the likes of Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, and Flatfoot 65. Rather, there is a roughter, rawer approach and sound to this song. The approach taken gives the song more of a folk/punk sound and style that helps it stand on its own merits.
The song’s lyrical message is a clear statement about the nature of war. The band addressed this in a prepared statement, noting, “A theme for most generations but we always hope not ours. War is hell, war never changes. Let’s hope for a brighter future, and never give up hope.”
The video for the band’s new single is its own engaging and entertaining presentation. It tells the story of various military conflicts throughout human history as the song plays over the visuazliation. What makes the presentation interesting is that the story in question is told in a comic book type fashion, with each cell telling part of each of the noted conflicts.
