Early this past April, Metallica announced it had partnered with the Red Cross to bolster blood donations.
The donations are being collected at select stops on the band’s current “M72 Tour.” Tuesday, the band announced that halfway through the effort, more than 1,000 blood donations have been collected as a result of the partnership.
The partnership was made possible through the band’s All Within My Hands Foundation. The foundation works to contribute to communities nationwide where the band stops on its tours.
Darren Irby, Executive Director of National Partnerships for the Red Cross, spoke on the partnership’s current results in a prepared statement.
“The Red Cross appreciates the impact this partnership has made in the lives of people in trauma situations, and those facing cancer and chronic conditions, like sickle cell disease,” Irby said. “Not only are donors who give regularly coming to give at these blood drives, but we are welcoming many new donors who have never given before – a true sign of how Metallica and All Within My Hands are inspiring people to give back across the country.”
Three more opportunities to donate blood at Metallica’s concerts remain in: Houston, TX; Santa Clara, CA and Denver, CO. Just as with the band’s already held concerts, anyone who donates blood at the upcoming concerts will get a special limited edition t-shirt while supplies last.
Fans who want to take part in the blood drives can make an appointment here.
