Old Crow Medicine Show Debuts New Album’s Third Single

NewsOld Crow Medicine Show Debuts New Album’s Third Single

Aug. 22 — Old Crow Medicine Show is scheduled to release its new album, Jubilee Friday.

In anticipation of the album’s release, the band unveiled the album’s third single, ‘One Drop‘ Monday, along with the song’s lyric video. The song’s premiere follows those of ‘Belle Meade Cockfight‘ last month and ‘Miles Away‘ in June.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘One Drop’ is an instantly infectious composition. The engagement and entertainment that it ensures comes through its balance of the band’s familiar bluegrass leanings and an equally subtle gospel-tinged sound and stylistic approach. The guest appearance by legendary singer Mavis Staples adds even more to that appeal. The whole is a fully immersive work whose positive vibes work so well with the song’s positive lyrical theme, which focuses on unity and inclusiveness.

Front man Ketch Secor talked about the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.

“For years Old Crow has always had a song or two on an album striving to sum up the need for a spiritual awakening, a rededication to ideals, and a sing-a-long tune for the campfire’s last dying ember,” Secor said. “This is the latest in our canon of ‘songs of a spiritual persuasion,’ and, I think, one of our best, due in no small part to the presence of a legend of gospel music and more, the great Mavis Staples. Mavis epitomizes a life in roots music and Old Crow can only hope that the next 25 years will bring us, like she is, closer to the true vine.”

The lyric video for OCMS’ new single works well to help illustrate the message in the song’s lyrical theme. It shows silhouettes of people of various colors and genders as the song plays over the visualization.
