Sept. 14 — Dragonforce unveiled its first new music in roughly four years this week with the premiere of its new single, ‘Doomsday Party‘ and the song’s companion video.
The song is a stark departure from the sound and style to which audiences have come to expect from the band. Instead of the rapid fire power metal sound and style for which the band has come to be known, this single instead boasts elements of 80s new wave with some symphonic leanings for a whole that is truly unique.
Guitarist Herman Li discussed the song’s sound and style in a prepared statement.
“We’re super excited to unveil a brand-new DragonForce song after a wait of over 4 years!,” Li said. “It was a tough decision to choose which of our new tracks to release first, but we decided on this one because it showcases a different facet of our music while still retaining the unmistakable DragonForce sound.”
No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the premiere of the song and video. The lyrics provided with the video point at what seems like a completely tongue-in-cheek take of all of the nihilistic themes presented in so much heavier music out there today. That is just this critic’s interpretation.
If the seemingly inferred theme is the case, then the song’s video matches well with that interpretation. That is because it presents members of so many metal communities partying together and having fun as the song plays over the visualization. That includes fans of nu-metal, black metal and even standard metal.
Li also discussed the song’s video.
“The filming process for this video was a blast, and we had the opportunity to bring our vision to life in the city of Los Angeles, CA,” Li said. “Our hope is that metal fans from all walks of the genre spectrum will find something to enjoy in it. We can’t wait to play this live during our upcoming tour!”
In other news, Dragonforce is scheduled to launch a new tour in support of its next, as yet untitled album, which will be released through Napalm Records. The band announced last month, it had signed a new record deal with the label, making it a label mate to the likes of Prong, Alter Bridge, and Sevendust.
The North American tour is scheduled to launch Oct. 10 in Mesa, AZ and to run through Nov. 19 in Los Angeles, CA. The roughly five-week tour features stops in cities, such as Charlotte, NC; Minneapolis, MN and Austin, TX. Before the tour’s official launch, Dragonforce will play a pair of festival shows Friday and Aug. 19 in Spain and Germany respectively.
Amaranthe, Edge of Paradise and Dragonforce’s Napalm Records label mates NanowaR of Steel will join the band for its upcoming headlining tour. The tour’s schedule — complete with upcoming festival dates — is noted below and tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. local time Friday here.
