Oct. 17 — Alkaline Trio will open the new year with a new album.
The band announced Tuesday, it is scheduled to release its new album, Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs Jan. 26 through Rise Records. Album pre-orders are available through alkalinetrio.com and alkalinetrio.store.
Front man/guitarist Matt Skiba talked about the new album’s creation in a prepared statement.
“My mom worked for years as an emergency room nurse,” Skiba said. “She and her co-workers referred to exceptionally busy nights as ‘blood, hair, and eyeballs’. Well, we’ve been busy making an exceptional record we refer to as Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs, too. We approached this new record in completely new ways. We built the songs together, from the ground up, in the same room which hasn’t happened since the band started. Usually we start with an idea somebody’s already written. This time, we had the unique opportunity to build the songs onto drums recorded at Studio 606 on to two-inch tape using one of the most beautiful-sounding and legendary consoles in rock. It has almost everything to do with how our new record sounds.”
In anticipation of the album’s release the band debuted the video for the album’s lead single/title track Tuesday. The video finds the trio performing its new single in a drained pool that is being used at the same time by a group of skaters. Those skaters and a bunch of others turn into a bunch of zombies as the video progresses, all of whom are trying to get at the band. The video has a surprise ending that will be left for audiences to discover for themselves.
The musical arrangement featured in the new single will appeal easily to any pop punk fan as well as to Alkaline Trio’s established audiences. No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the debut of the new video and the new album’s pending release. The lyrics provided with the video hints at the song perhaps being a story of a friendship or some sort of personal relationship of some sort that has soured.
Bassist/vocalist Dan Andriano talked about the song’s video in his own comments.
“Sometimes the full circle nature of life is enough to just completely blow my mind… this is one of those times,” Adnriano said. “Skateboarding was my first love, is my favorite sport, and a community through which I was first introduced to punk rock. So when Matt and I read Ravi’s idea to combine our music with an homage to the Bones Brigade’s ‘The Search For Animal Chin’ and throw some spooky zombies in there… we both dug it right away. The work Ravi and the entire production crew put in was insane and it shows… So to kick off the release of our 10th album with this super fun video featuring Steve Caballero, Chris Cole, Ace, Corey and Shea is so much more than a dream come true, it’s true love. This is not a phase.”
