Nov. 21 — Veteran hard rock act Saxon will kick off 2024 with a new album.
The band announced Tuesday, it is scheduled to release its new album, Hell, Fire and Damnation, January 19. In anticipation of its release the band premiered the album’s lead single, its title track, and the song’s video Tuesday. The album’s release will come a little less than a year after the release of the band’s then latest album, Carpe Diem, which was released Feb. 4, 2022.
The musical arrangement featured in Saxon’s new single is everything audiences have come to expect from the band. It is a driving, guitar-centered composition that is easily likened to works from the likes of Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and so many other power metal acts of its ilk.
Front man Biff Byford talked about the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.
“There’s so much music out there about hell and the devil and the occult that I just thought it’s about time somebody wrote one about the battle just between good and evil!,” Byford said. “There’s so much music out there about hell and the devil and the occult that I just thought it’s about time somebody wrote one about the battle just between good and evil!”
The video for Saxon’s new single puts the band on a sound stage meant to look like a live stage to give audiences that sense of the band being in front of an audience as the song plays over the visualization. Images, such as a church, the Holy Bible, angels, and a pentagram are also incorporated into the video to help illustrate the theme of which Byford spoke.
