Alvvays at The Sylvee in Madison WI.

Alvvays returns to Madison for their largest show in the city. Singer Molly Rankin mentioned how the last time they were in Madison was right after the covid shut down and they weren’t really sure how to be doing things in light of it. Alvvays definitely knew how to bring a great show to Madison now.
The night opened with the band Spllit taking the stage. They have a sound of mixed synth rock and pop. Which was a great start to get the crowd going.
Alvvays came walking out to a venue filled with cheers of excitement of seeing the band taking stage. Alvvays started out their set with “Easy On Your Own”, off of the latest album Blue Rev. Alvvays didn’t have much movement on stage other than Singer Molly Rankin stepping ack from the mic between singing. But they totally had the audience moving and singing to all of their songs. Definitely knew the crowd favorites when the excitement would erupt even more at the start of fan favorites such as, “In Undertow”, “Dreams Tonite”, “Not Your  Baby” and ” Marry Me, Archie”.  Which were also some of my favorites off Alvvays previous two albums, Antisocialites and their self titled debut album Alvvays. The set was very well picked a great mix but there was a couple songs I wish would have been in the set. But of course older songs have to be pulled from the set to fit in the latest songs off of Blue Rev.
Alvvays really had a great stage presence that really translated through to the audience. Along with music that is just fun and feels good. It really makes for a great show. After playing 19 songs the band left the stage to the crowd screaming for more. When Alvvays came back out they played a three song encore making it a total of a 22 song setlist. The final song Alvvays took a cro2d request and played “Next Of Kin” of the self titled album. The sound was great they really sound and perform really good live. Molly’s voice sounded so good! The stage setup was pretty simple Alvvays had a large white backdrop behind them with live video feed being projected over the screen and falling over the band members also. Was some pretty cool almost psychedelic live images being projected over each other.
Alvvays is one of those bands I’ve been a fan of since the very first album. Seeing them live was awesome. I look forward to seeing them live again and look forward to hearing more new music from them in the future. I definitely suggest getting out there to one of the future shows a band totally worth seeing.
