June 5 — Deep Purple fans got a new preview of the band’s next album this week.
The band unveiled its new single, ‘Pictures Of You‘ and the song’s companion video Wednesday. The song and its video are the second from the band’s forthcoming album, =1, which is scheduled for release July 19 through earMusic. The band premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Portable Door’ and the song’s companion video last month.
The musical arrangement featured in the new single takes listeners in a different direction than the album’s lead single. Where that song was more upbeat in its delivery, this composition’s arrangement is more subdued, though not too much so. There is a certain contemplative nature to the song in its mood set through its stylistic approach that makes it engaging.
No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the premiere of the new single and video. The lyrics provided with the video, which finds the band performing its new single in a sound stage setting meant to look like a rehearsal space, seem to hint at perhaps a person examining the contrasting personalities of two people. To that end it infers a relationship-based theme of sorts. That is just this critic’s own interpretation.
Deep Purple is scheduled to tour this summer in support of =1. The tour is scheduled to kick off Aug. 14 in Hollywood, FL and to run through Sept. 8 in Scranton, PA and also includes stops in cities nationwide, such as Cincinnati, OH; Bridgeport, CT and Fort Worth, TX.
