June 17 — The Amsterdam Red Light District premiered the video for its latest single over the weekend.
The group debuted the video for its new single, ‘Social Sickness’ Sunday. According to information in a news release announcing the video’s premiere, the single is scheduled for release Friday.
The video in question is an allegory about the impact of social media on society and especially children. From pointless gender reveals to equally pointless video reaction videos and more, social media in general has clearly become more about personal celebrity and vanity than anything else. That is the message delivered through the video and the song.
The band addressed this in a prepared statement:
“We aimed to show how the quest for buzz and “likes” leads to the production of increasingly absurd content lacking intellectual or moral value,” the statement reads. “By addressing this theme, our goal is to encourage listeners to reflect on the quality and impact of the content they consume and share.”
The statement added, “The theme of ‘Social Sickness’ revolves around the excessive weight of social media in daily life and the negative impact it can have on our perception of reality and behavior. We live in a time where everything is designed to go viral, where content is often superficial and devoid of deep meaning. We wanted to explore this idea through a song that criticizes how social media shapes our world and particularly influences younger generations.
The band also addressed the role of social media on how is shapes children’s mental health, stating, “Statistics show that the average time children spend in front of screens is constantly increasing. According to a recent study, children spend an average of over 4 hours a day on digital devices. This time spent online significantly influences their education and how they perceive the world. Social media, with its often inauthentic and hyper-stimulating content, can distort their view of reality and human relationships. It can also promote behaviors and values that are not always positive. Our song seeks to raise awareness of this issue and encourage more thoughtful and critical use of social media.”
The musical arrangement in TARLD’s new single is its own standout element in this new song. The fire and intensity in the song give it a clear metalcore style and sound. The punch from the guitars and the vocals pairs with the impact of the rhythm section to make this a song that is immediately radio ready.
The premiere of this new single from TARLD comes more than two months after the premiere of the band’s then latest single, ‘Black Smoke‘ and the song’s companion lyric video. Both songs have been released through Red Light Records and Bloodblast-Believe.
