Whitechapel Announces New Album Details; Headlining Tour To Launch Days Later

Jan. 15 — Whitechapel will tentatively release its next album late this winter.

The band announced Wednesday through a news release, it is scheduled to release its next album, Hymns in Dissonance March 7 through Metal Blade Records. The album, which will come more than a year after the release of its latest live recording, Live in The Valley, and more than three years after the release of its then latest studio recording, Kin, is going to be a concept record, according to the band’s members.

Guitarist Alex Wade explained in a prepared statement.

“The album follows the story of a cultist who is gathering worthy people to join his cult and there are moments in the storyline where the cult followers are singing an evil hymn to open a portal for the head cultist to enter,” Wade said.

Front man Phil Bozeman expanded on Wade’s comments with his own explanation.

“Hymns In Dissonance is a mockery of the true nature of what hymns are,” Bozeman said. “Hymns are melodious and harmonious. Dissonance is the opposite of melody and harmony. Dissonance represents evil. The tracks on the record are the hymns, which represent the seven deadly sins, beginning from track three to track ten. Tracks one and two are the introduction.”

Audiences recently received their first preview of the album in the record’s lead single, ‘A Visceral Retch.’ According to information provided in a recently release press update announcing a new upcoming tour for the band, the lyrical theme in the single is a commentary “about gluttonous overlords who test the lengths to which humans will go to survive and join their cult.”

The press release distributed Wednesday expands further on the new album explaining that while the new record is the follow-up to Kin, it is in the bigger picture, a sequel of sorts to the band’s 2008 sophomore album, This is Exile.

Whitechapel is scheduled to launch a tour in support of its forthcoming album days after the record’s release, on March 18 in Raleigh, NC. The tour is scheduled to run through Apr. 19 in Atlanta, GA and includes stops in cities nationwide, such as Denver, CO; Portland, OR and Dallas, TX. Tickets are available now.

Brand of Sacrifice, 200 Stab Wounds and Alluvial will serve as support for the tour. The tour’s schedule is noted below:
