Feb. 24 — Killswitch Engage unveiled its latest album, This Consequence, over the weekend, and followed up its release with the debut of the video for another of the record’s singles.
The band premiered the video for its new single, ‘Collusion’ Monday. The single is now the album’s third single behind ‘I Believe‘ and ‘Forever Aligned.’ Just as ‘I Believe’ saw a change in style from KsE, so does this latest single even more so. Instead of the metalcore sound and style for which the band had come to be known over the years, this single instead takes the band in more of a pure, almost thrash direction, with the metalcore singing vocals limited to only the song’s choruses. At one point front man Jesse Leach even goes into a full on deathcore growl that is surprisingly powerful in its own right.
According to Leach, the song’s lyrical theme is a familiar sociopolitical message.
“‘Collusion’ is about the struggle between people in power and the common people,” said Leach. “It speaks about the propaganda and divisiveness used to keep us in control. It’s about the ruthlessness of the ruling class who use wealth to raise, manipulate, and destroy empires at their will.”
Leach continued, “I wish for people to use discernment and intellect to read between the lines. My hope is to instill a desire for analyzation and critical thinking amidst the current rigged and corrupt forms of governments the world over.”
The new single’s video illustrates the message clearly, as it centers on a hacker who gets into a computer system to overpower a news agency’s broadcast; a broadcast that tells viewers what to think about specific topics. This all takes place as the band performs its new single on a sound stage on which the hacker in question is breaking into the TV station’s computers.
In other news, Killswitch Engage recently announced a spring tour in support of its new album, set to launch March 5 in Nashville, TN. The tour is scheduled to run through Apr. 12 in Portland, ME. Its schedule is noted below. Tickets will be available here.
