March 21 — Independent punk rock band The Sleeping is scheduled to release its first new music in more than a decade this year.

The band is scheduled to release its new album, Feel Like I’m Becoming A Ghost July 28. In an effort to fund the record’s creation, the band has launched a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of $30,000 raised by May 20. If the band doesn’t reach its goal by that date, then the album’s creation will not be funded, according to information on the campaign’s website.

The campaign had already raised more than $7,400 as of mid-day Tuesday. Contributors to the campaign can get a variety of items from the band, such as t-shirts, signed drumheads, and hand-written lyrics for them album.

Front man Douglas Robinson talked about the new album in a prepared statement.

“I would describe this new record as a band that stayed true to who they are while completely reshaping the approach to their sound,” Robinson said. “This record feels way more focused from every angle, but it’s us at its core. We were never a band who copied our influences. Everything that we put out is influenced by our love for music as a whole, and not just particular bands or artists.”

According to information provided about the band’s new album, it touches on a variety of topics through its songs’ lyrics, which all follow the central theme of mental health. In ‘The Animal’ the band addresses people getting in one’s personal space and refusing to leave that space, and the resultant impact. ‘No Light’ encourages listeners to find the positives in themselves and their lives. ‘Tainted’ and ‘Halcyon’ both touch on the issue of dealing with one’s emotions and feelings.
