April 26 — Singer-songwriter-musician Amanda Shires is set to release her new album this summer.

Loving You is scheduled for release June 23 through Silver Knife/ATO Records. The record is a 10-track collection of covers recorded by Shires and the now late pianist Bobbie Nelson. In anticipation of the record’s release, Shires unveiled one of those covers, a take of George Gershwin’s timeless bluesy song, ‘Summertime‘ and a companion video Wednesday.

Shires and Nelson’s rendition, which also features guest vocals from the red headed stranger himself, Willie Nelson, is a wonderful take on the classic, which itself is featured in George and Ira Gershwin’s equally timeless musical, Porgy and Bess. The light swing that Billie Nelson gives the song through her performance on the piano pairs with the rich, swaying string arrangement to make the song so engaging and entertaining.

Willie Nelson lets audiences know that he has no intention of overpowering Shires and Billie Nelson through his supporting role even as his performance is just as evident and rich.

The video for Shires and Nelson’s take of ‘Summertime’ is a familiar style presentation that has been done by so many acts out there. It features the duo at work in the studio as they record the single. The song plays over as the pair works on the song.
