Diesel Boy Debuts New Single, ‘Bismarck’; Announces New Live Dates

May 10 — Punk rock outfit Diesel Boy premiered its new single this week.
The band debuted its new single, ‘Bismarck‘ Wednesday. The song is the first single from the band’s forthcoming album, Gets Old, which is scheduled for release July 28 through SBAM Records. Upon its release the album will be the band’s first new album since 2001.
Diesel Boy’s new single presents a catchy skate punk style arrangement that holds its own alongside so many other skate punk bands. Instead of the more melodic poppy sound of so many skate punk sounds, this arrangement is more raw in its approach than other songs within the skate punk realm. It does not sound and feel as spit shined as so many of those songs, in layman’s terms.
According to front man/guitarist Dave Lake, the song’s lyrical theme was inspired by actual events.
“‘Bismarck’ is an amalgam of memories about moving to Seattle 20 years ago, a big life change for me,” Lake said. “Some of the details are real – there was an actual postcard from a girl I was crushing on, while other details are metaphors for the city itself. Both the girl and my new home struck me as beautiful in similarly unconventional ways.”
Lake added, “We hadn’t planned on having a woman sing on the track, but Matt Bayles, who produced the record, came up with the idea, and when he suggested Kim Warnick of seminal Seattle pop-punk band The Fastbacks, it was a no-brainer. It completed the circle some 22 years later,”
In other news, Diesel Boy has planned a tour in support of its new album. The tour is scheduled to launch July 7 in Portland, OR and to run through Aug. 12 in Stuttgart, Germany.
