May 19 — Industrial/goth duo Julien-K premiered its latest single and video this week.
The duo — former Orgy members Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck — premiered its new single, ‘Your Tears Mean Nothing‘ and the song’s companion video Friday. The song is expected to be included in the band’s forthcoming DRK|MODE music collection.
The song’s musical arrangement is a stark contrast to the songs featured in the band’s latest album, Harmonic Disruptor (2020). Instead of the guitar-centered electronic/industrial sound and style of the songs featured in that record, this song is much more centered on its keyboards and electronics, as are apparently the songs featured in the forthcoming collection, whose release date is under consideration. According to information provided about the song and record, both have no guitars at all.
The steady beat from the keyboard immediately gives the song an electronic dance music style and sound while the overall approach still lends the song easily to comparison to works from the pair’s former band, Orgy. Listeners could also argue that there is something of a Nine Inch Nails influence from the band’s early catalog.
No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme, but in listening to the song, it would seem it centers on someone who is reeling from the hurt of being hurt by another. That is just this critic’s interpretation.
The song’s video is a straight forward presentation. It features the duo on a sound stage performing its new single, fog flowing around the pair as a light shines from below. It gives the sense of something that, again, audiences would expect from Nine Inch Nails in its early stage shows.
