June 2 — Mercy Music is giving audiences yet another preview of its latest album, What You Stand To Lose.
The band debuted its new single, ‘Found Out I’m Useless‘ and its companion video Friday. the song and its video are the third from the album, which is scheduled for release June 30 through Double Helix Records/SBAM Records. The album has already produced the singles, ‘Suddenly‘ and ‘Love You/Need You‘.
The musical arrangement featured in the song is something of a 90s rock style composition. To a certain extent listeners can make the slightest comparison to works from Weezer, believe it or not. Bassist Jarred Cooper is even quoted as saying the band intentionally gave the song’s arrangement what he called a “90s slacker vibe.”
The song’s lyrical theme is meant to be a wake-up call of sorts in regards to relationships, according to front man Brendan Scholz.
“The truth is right in front of you, but you constantly refuse to accept it,” Scholz said.
He clarified, noting the song’s lyrical theme “is about convincing yourself the situation is still salvageable even though, in your heart of hearts, you know it’s not.”
The song’s video finds the band on a road trip as the song plays over. Throughout the course of the trip, clips of the band playing live are fed through the presentation as the song plays over the visualization.
