The band’s popularity has led to the release of nine albums over the course of its now 23 years as a unit, and this past Friday, it led to the release of the band’s 10th album (and second for record label Round Hill Records) in the form of the aptly titled Volume 10. The 11-song record is everything audiences have come to expect from the band, both musically and lyrically. That musical and lyrical content will each be addressed in its own right here. The album’s production brings everything together, completing its presentation. Each item noted is important in its own way to the whole of the album. All things considered they make Volume 10 another work that is certain to appeal easily to the band’s established audiences and guitar rock fans in general.

That is due in part to its featured musical arrangements. The arrangements are of importance because of their accessibility and familiarity. In comparison to the band’s existing catalog, the arrangements featured here do not necessarily break any new ground for the band. They are, for the most part, more of that familiar 80s hair metal and rock influenced work that makes up so much of the band’s catalog. There are also some equally familiar contemplative style works in the form of ‘Feels Like Love’ and ‘Pain’ that the band has also featured in its existing albums. ‘Pain’ is more of a modern style composition what with its pairing of strings and guitar while ‘Feels Like Love’ is clearly another 80s rock ballad style composition, which the band has also presented in its existing albums, too. Throughout it all, the bombastic guitar solos and catchy melodies and choruses still manage to give each arrangement featured here its own identity separate from those in each of the record’s predecessors. To that end, the musical arrangements featured in Volume 10 are reason enough for Buckcherry’s fans to take in this record.
The lyrical content that accompanies the album’s musical arrangements are also reason for the noted audiences to take in the band’s latest offering. That is because they are just as accessible as the record’s musical content. Throughout the course of the album’s 37-minute run time, the record’s lyrical themes feature more messages of just going out and having a good time, such as in the record’s opener, ‘This and That,’ the later entry ‘Le’s Get Wild’ and even in the early entry, ‘Good Time’. The noted contemplative ‘Feels Like Love’ takes listeners in another direction with its familiar apparent story of a broken relationship. On a more positive note, the band also delivers what comes across as messages of perseverance and not letting people and life get them down in two other songs, ‘Keep On Fighting’ and ‘Shine Your Light’. Simply put, the lyrical themes featured in this record are not overly diverse but still do offer audiences a variety of topics that are just as familiar and accessible as their musical counterparts. Keeping that in mind, the overall content featured in Volume 10 finds Buckerry playing it safe and succeeding in doing so in the process, giving audiences more of what they know from the band, just in a new setting.
While it is clear that the content featured in Buckcherry’s latest album offers the band’s established audiences more of what they know, making for plenty of appeal among those listeners, it is collectively just part of what makes the album worth hearing among those audiences. The record’s production rounds out its most important elements. That is because its result is a positive overall general effect for the album. That general effect is achieved through the clear time and effort that went into balancing the vocals and instrumentation in each arrangement. This applies in the more energetic songs and in the calmer moment that is ‘Feels Like Love.’ Those responsible for balancing all of the elements involved are to be applauded for their work considering this. When the production featured in this album is considered along with the album’s overall content, the whole makes the album another largely successful offering from Buckcherry that the band’s established audiences and guitar rock fans alike will enjoy.
