March 3 — Independent record label Wicked Cool Records’ artist roster has grown again.
Power pop act Joy Buzzer has signed a new record deal with the label. Formed in 2021, the band is composed of vocalist Kevin Lydon, bassist Christopher Peifer, Mark Brotter on drums and guitarist Jed Becker. Becker is most well-known as composer and music director on the Nick Jr. series Dora The Explorer and Go, Diego, Go!
In celebration of the new deal, the band premiered a brand new single, ‘Judy Judy Judy’ Thursday. The song’s musical arrangement is an infectious composition. Peifer’s bass line forms the song’s foundation, cutting through clearly from the song’s opening bars to its end. Meanwhile Lydon’s vocals and Becker’s semi-psychedelic presentation add even more to the overall presentation. On one hand, that psychedelic leaning gives the arrangement something of a neo-classic rock vibe. At the same time, listeners could also argue a similarity in sound and style to the work of Fountains of Wayne, Todd Rungren, and The Rembrandts.
No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme and no lyrics were provided with the song through its YouTube channel. From what can be gleaned from listening through the song, it seems the song centers on a woman named Judy and her influence on one of the band members.
In other news, Joy Buzzer is scheduled to perform live April 6 at Bowery Electric 327 in New York City.
