April 4 — Unearth is giving audiences another preview of its forthcoming album with the debut of another single.
The band premiered its new single, ‘Into The Abyss‘ and the song’s companion video Tuesday. The song is the third single from the band’s forthcoming album, The Wretched; The Ruinous, which is slated for release May 5 through Century Media Records. The band debuted the record’s second single, ‘Mother Betrayal‘ and the song’s video last month. Its premiere came a month after the debut of the record’s lead/title track and its video.
The musical arrangement featured in Unearth’s latest single is the softest the album proves to be so far. That is because it takes the album in a more melodic metalcore direction a la Killswitch Engage and early As I Lay Dying.
Front man Trevor Phipps said in a recent interview, the song’s lyrical theme is another ecologically-minded presentation, much as is the album’s second single.
“Our future planet is in disrepair and the fortunate are forced to flee to a distant world to continue the human race while billions of the less fortunate are left behind to meet a hellish end,” Phipps said of the song’s message.
Phipps said last month, of the album’s second single, “‘Mother Betrayal’ is a warning that we are smashing past multiple ecological tipping points caused by our dependence on fossil fuels that will forever alter life on our planet.” To that end, this latest song continues the theme of the second single even if done unintentionally.
The video that accompanies Unearth’s new single comes across as telling the story of those who were left behind. The black and white presentation finds those left behind seemingly forming into tribes o the barren landscape left by those who left the planet.
In other news, Unearth announced a new slate of tour dates last month in support of its forthcoming album.
