June 9 — Punk rock outfit Diesel Boy is giving audiences another preview of its new, forthcoming album, Gets Old as the weekend progresses.
The band debuted its new single, ‘Dirty Dishes‘ Thursday. The band premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Bismarck‘, last month. As with that single, this song’s arrangement is another pop punk composition that is sure to appeal to fans of the punk sub-genre. The style is much the same as in ‘Bismarck,’ but the sound differences between the singles are just subtle enough to keep listeners engaged and entertained.
Front man Dave Lake said the song’s lyrical content, which focuses on the all too familiar topic of a broken relationship, was spawned from a personal experience.
“‘Dirty Dishes’ is a breakup song,” Lake said. “It’s about the demise of a long relationship, which left me displaced, both literally and emotionally. The breakup forced me to look hard at myself and the choices I’d made. The song is about unpacking what went wrong in the relationship while trying not to lose sight of the great things that also came out it. The third verse breakdown was a dream I had, where I was a horror movie villain. That imagery seemed like an apt metaphor for confronting the part of myself that wants to hide in the shadows. We all have dirty dishes. Hopefully they don’t stack up too high.”
Gets Old is scheduled for release July 28 through SBAM Records.
